I wasn't really a Toby Keith fan before, but now I'm definitely not... This was probably the worst Mall of America performance/autograph signing I've been to. I've also never seen so many people get there so early for one of these. The show was to start at 6pm, the first people in line were there at 6am - when the mall opened! Wristbands were handed out staring at 8am until they were gone (I heard only 500 were going to be given out, but could of been more.)
Toby come on at 6pm & sang only ONE song - Curiosity of the Red, White & Blue - for the 7,000+ people there. And if that wasn't disappointing enough, the crowd was then told he was only signing copies of the CD. I wanted the Country Weekly signed (he was on this weeks cover). When the autographing started one of his people collected CD covers from the fans, Toby signed them, piled them up on his other side and another guy handed you a CD cover back (of course it wasn't the one that belonged to you). Toby wouldn't even look up at his fans as he was doing it.
When it was my turn, even though his people were saying CD's only, I put the Country Weekly on the table in front of him and said "I've been here for 10 hours, would you please sign this?", and actually looked up me and smile and signed it! I hope if anyone else had something other than a CD they did the same thing. I wonder what his real fans thought though, the ones who were there for 12 hours and wearing their "I Love Toby" gear? It was pretty disappointing that he didn't sing more songs, and signed CDs only and he was very impersonal about it...
