This was my first time seeing Big & Rich, they put one on heck of a show!! WOW!!
The 20 minute version of "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" was nuts!!
They had the ENTIRE Xcel Center on their feet! I've never seen an opener get such a huge response!

Big & Rich Save The Show For Mcgraw
Country superstar Tim McGraw has a knack for picking opening acts before they blossom into big-time stardom: Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney and now Big & Rich. In fact, the way Big & Rich practically stole the show Sunday at sold-out Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, McGraw's Out Loud Tour should probably be renamed the Save a Concert (Upstage a Superstar) Tour. In concert, Big & Rich have what McGraw lacks: a distinctive voice, commanding showmanship, a variety in their delivery and material, a sense of fun, a sense of humor and originality. |

Big & Rich offer what they call "country without prejudice." For example: "Love Train" is not your typical fiddle-driven country train song; on Sunday, it started with a rap intro, followed by a big rock beat and then rocked soulfully with plenty of fiddle. Yo-haw!
Cowboy Troy, who was introduced as a "6-foot-5, 260-pound black rappin' cowboy" from Dallas, did a guest rap during "Rollin' (The Ballad of Big & Rich)," one of many B&R party triumphs. With his outsized presence and bold delivery, Troy fit in perfectly with Big Kenny Alphin, who carried on like an overgrown Mick Jagger, and John Rich, who boogied like the mysterious rhinestone cowboy. |

But the Big & Rich song that had the 17,454 concertgoers partying in overdrive was its smash "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)," a hip-hop honky-tonk hoedown with a heavy-metal guitar solo and a bit of Nelly's hip-hop hit "Hot in Herrre" thrown in for good pleasure.
What a hoot! Big & Rich received a thunderous ovation comparable to what Chesney heard when he opened for McGraw at Xcel in 2001. (And the Warren Brothers, who appeared before B&R, kicked butt, too, with their rollicking, beer-soaked Southern rock.) ~ Jon Bream, Star Tribune, September 27, 2004 |
